The “Medieval Swordsmen of Soriano nel Cimino” was founded 

      back in 1974 in “Rione Rocca”, the medieval quarter of the town of Soriano.

Accompanied by trumpeters, drummers, knights and ladies-in-waiting,

the group puts on displays of swordfighting, re-enacting the chivalrous

and sometimes hazardous yet romantic feats of medieval times.

The group, the only one of its kind in Europe, dresses in authentic period

costume and performs displays of synchronised swordsmanship

as well as realistic duels. In their travels throughout Italy and Europe,

the swordsmen and their home town have become well known

for their many triumphant exhibitions. A sight to see is the hard-fought

duel between two swordsmen each bent on winning the hand of one

of the Ladies, to whom the victor presents the sword of his defeated rival

as a token of his love and devotion.
